LAST NIGHT WAS THE THIRD AND FINAL FORUM TO GET PUBLIC INPUT TO AID IN THE HIRING OF A NEW SUPERINTENDENT IN RAPIDES PARISH. THE FORUM AT GLENMORA HIGH DREW THE SMALLEST CROWD YET, ABOUT 15 TO 20 PEOPLE. THE NEXT STEP, THE REPORT FROM THE CONSULTING FIRM THAT CONDUCTED THE FORUMS ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL BOARD. THE BOARD SHOULD RECEIVE THAT REPORT BY THE END OF THE MONTH. INFORMATION GLEAMED FROM THE FORUMS, ACCORDING TO THE SCHOOL BOARD, WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN INTERVIEWING POTENTIAL CANDIDATES.

OFFICIALS AT LOUISIANA COLLEGE SAY PRESIDENT DR. JOE AGUILLARD APPEARS TO BE FINE, THAT AFTER HE WENT HOME WEDNESDAY WITH CHEST PAINS. DR. AGUILLARD HAD TESTS DONE THURSDAY MORNING AND THEN WENT HOME TO REST. AGUILLARD UNDERWENT QUADRUPLE BYPASS HEART SURGERY ON APRIL 4, 2011, IN RAPIDES REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AFTER SUFFERING A HEART ATTACK MARCH 28 WHILE AT WORK.

A POLICY REGARDING THE SELECTION OF CHEERLEADERS AND MAJORETTES IN AVOYELLES PARISH PUBLIC SCHOOLS FACES OPPOSITION, CONTINUING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S COURT-ORDERED QUEST FOR UNITARY STATUS IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.
ALLEN HOLMES, INTERVENER IN THE AVOYELLES DESEGREGATION CASE SINCE THE 1980S, FILED A MEMORANDUM IN OPPOSITION. THE MEMORANDUM OPPOSES A POLICY THE AVOYELLES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD PASSED AUG. 28, STATING THAT "JUDGES, THAT ARE TO BE USED FOR THE SELECTION OF CHEERLEADERS, DANCELINE AND MAJORETTES, MUST CONTAIN AT LEAST ONE MEMBER OF THE MINORITY RACE." HOLMES SAYS THE POLICY IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STATEMENT, AND IT IS NOT ENOUGH.

THE US ATTORNEY OFFICE SAYS A FEDERAL GRAND JURY HAS INDICTED THE MAN ACCUSED OF PHONING IN A BOMB SCARE AT LSU MONDAY. WILLIAM BOUVAY JR. WILL NOW FACE FEDERAL CHARGES OF MAKING A BOMB THREAT, WHICH CARRY A PENALTY OF UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON IN CONVICTED. HE COULD ALSO FACE FINES OF UP TO A QUARTER-MILLION DOLLARS. THERE'S BEEN NO INDICTMENT AS YET ON ANY STATE OR LOCAL CHARGES. BOUVAY'S MOTIVES FOR THE BOMB SCARE ARE BEING WITHHELD FOR NOW.

TOMORROW MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF FALL AND STATE CLIMATOLOGIST BARRY KEIM SAYS THE LONG-RANGE FORECAST CALLS FOR OUR FALL TO HAVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES, BUT ABOVE-AVERAGE PRECIPITATION. KEIM SAYS FALL WILL OFFICIALLY ARRIVE AT 9:49 A-M ON SATURDAY MORNING. HE SAYS IT ALSO FEELS LIKE FALL OUTSIDE AS COMFORTABLE TEMPS ARE PREDICTED ALL WEEKEND LONG.

RECALL PETITIONS AGAINST GOVERNOR BOBBY JINDAL AND HOUSE SPEAKER CHUCK KLECKLY BOTH FELL SHORT OF THE NEEDED SIGNATURES. CALCASIEU PARISH SCHOOL TEACHERS ANGIE BONVILLIAN AND BRENDA ROMERO, WHO LEAD THE EFFORT, RELEASED AN EMAIL SAYING THEY COULDN'T GET ENOUGH SUPPORT. THE THRESHOLD TO FORCE A RECALL FOR GOVERNOR JINDAL IS 950-THOSUAND SIGNATURES WHILE ONLY NINE-THOUSAND SIGNATURES ARE NEEDED TO RECALL A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE. THE EMAIL DID NOT SAY HOW MANY SIGNATURES THEY WERE ABLE TO GET.

SPEAKING OF THE GOVERNOR, HE WAS IN BILLINGS, MONTANA YESTERDAY FOR A
REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION EVENT AND A FUNDRAISER FOR MONTANA
GOVERNOR RICK HILL'S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN. HE RETURNED HOME LATE LAST NIGHT.

NEW DATA FROM THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU SHOWS LOUISIANA POVERTY RATE IS GOING UP, WHILE AVERAGE INCOMES GO DOWN. THE REPORT SHOWS THE POVERTY LEVEL INCOME AT JUST OVER 20% FOR 2011--UP FROM 19% IN 2010. THE CENSUS REPORT ALSO SHOWS THE MEDIAN INCOME IN LOUISIANA IS $41,730 WELL BELOW THE NATIONAL AVERAGE OF $50-K. AND OVER $2000 LOWER THAN IN 2010. LOUISIANA'S POVERTY RATE 3RD WORST--BEHIND NEW MEXICO AND MISSISSIPPI.

THE STATE'S CHIEF ECONOMIST SAYS THE STATE FINISHED THE LAST FISCAL YEAR, WHICH ENDED JUNE 30TH, WITH A 130-MILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS. GOVERNOR JINDAL WANTS TO USE THE MONEY TO FILL IN A GAP IN THE MEDICARE BUDGET. BUT HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS CHAIRMAN, JIM FANNIN, SAYS THE MONEY SHOULD BE USED TO REPAY THE STATE'S RAINY DAY FUND.

A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER AT J. WALLACE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LAFAYETTE IN UNDER INVESTIGATION BY LAFAYETTE PD FOR ALLEGEDLY TAPING A 9-YEAR-OLD CHILD'S MOUTH SHUT. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED ON SEPTEMBER 12TH. PARISH SUPERINTENDENT DR. PAT COOPER SAYS THE TEACHER HAS BEEN DISMISSED AND WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO WORK IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AGAIN. HE SAYS THE CHILD WAS NOT INJURED AND HE DOES NOT BELIEVE THE TEACHER HAD ANY MALICIOUS INTENT, BUT SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT BY THE SCHOOL BOARD CONCLUDED THE TEACHER WAS HAVING A ROUGH TIME HANDLING THE CLASS THAT DAY.

THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE SAYS THE 2011 SEAFOOD CATCH IN THE GULF OF MEXICO WAS THE LARGEST SINCE 1999. BUT THE LOUISIANA SEAFOOD PROMOTION AND MARKETING BOARD SAYS THIS REPORT DOESN'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY. BOARD CHAIRMAN, HARLAN PEARCE, SAYS THE MAIN FISHERIES ARE STILL NOT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE AFTER THE 2010 B-P OIL SPILL. THE REPORT SAYS THE 2011 CATCH IN LOUISIANA WAS ONE-POINT-FIVE MILLION POUNDS, BUT PEARCE SAYS FISHERMEN WILL TELL YOU 2011 WAS A DOWN YEAR.

AN AMAZING STORY, POLICE IN HOUMA SAY A FLEEING SHOPLIFTING SUSPECT DROVE OFF SO QUICKLY, SHE CAUSED HER 5-YEAR-OLD CHILD TO BE TOSSED OUT OF THE MOVING VEHICLE. OFFICERS SAY 28-YEAR-OLD NAKEISHA WHITE - WHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE A WAL-MART STORE - DROPPED THE MERCHANDISE, THREW HER TODDLER INTO THE BED OF HER PICKUP AND SPED OFF...FLIPPING THE CHILD OUT ONTO THE PARKING LOT PAVEMENT. SHE REPORTEDLY STOPPED, PUT THE LITTLE GIRL BACK IN THE TRUCK AND ROARED OFF. HOURS LATER POLICE WERE CALLED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL, WHERE A CHILD WAS BEING TREATED FOR A HEAD WOUND. WHITE WAS DETAINED, BUT TOLD OFFICERS SHE WAS PREGNANT AND FELT SICK - USING THAT AS A PLOY TO ESCAPE AGAIN. SHE'S STILL AT
LARGE, BUT WANTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING CRUELTY TO A JUVENILE.

ULM FOOTBALL FANS ARE FIRED UP ABOUT TONIGHT'S NATIONALLY TELEVISED HOME OPENER AGAINST BAYLOR. THE WARHAWKS FOOTBALL TEAM IS RECEIVING NATION-WIDE ATTENTION FOR ITS PERFORMANCE SO FAR THIS SEASON MOST NOTABLY THE 34-31 OVERTIME UPSET WIN OVER ARKANSAS. THE GAME TONIGHT WILL BE ON ESPN

IT'S BEING REPORTED THAT ONE SUSPECT IS NOW IN CUSTODY SUSPECTED OF SETTING A FIRE IN THE BASTROP HIGH SCHOOL GYM WEDNESDAY. THE SUSPECT IS A JUVENILE, BELIEVED TO BE A STUDENT, AND NO NAME IS BEING RELEASED. STATE FIRE MARSHAL BUTCH BROWNING CONFIRMED THE FIRE WAS AN ARSON AND THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.
