STATE POLICE SAY THEY'RE COMMITTED TO CATCHING THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO CALLED IN A BOMB THREAT AT LSU MONDAY. STATE POLICE SUPERINTENDENT COLONEL MIKE EDMONSON SAYS THE FIRST PRIORITY WAS SEEING TO EVERYONE'S SAFETY. PRIORITY TWO IS CATCHING THE PERPETRATOR. THE BOMB THREAT CALL CAME IN TO THE EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH 9-1-1 CENTER AROUND 10:30 MONDAY MORNING. WITHIN AN HOUR, THE ROUGHLY 30-THOUSAND PEOPLE ON THE CAMPUS WERE BEING EVACUATED. EDMONSON SAYS OFFICERS WITH BOMB DETECTING DOGS AND EQUIPMENT COMBED OVER EVERY BUILDING ON CAMPUS.

A STATE PRISON IN CALCASIEU PARISH IS SET TO CLOSE BY NOVEMBER FIRST. DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SECRETARY JIMMY LEBLANC NOTIFIED WORKERS AT PHELPS CORRECTIONAL CENTER IN DEQUINCY ON FRIDAY THAT THE FACILITY WILL BE SHUT DOWN. THE INMATES FROM PHELPS WILL BE MOVED TO ANGOLA. THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS HAS NOT COMMENTED PUBLICLY ABOUT THE CLOSING OF THE 924-BED STATE PRISON. HOWEVER, SECRETARY LEBLANC HAS SAID THE MOVE WILL SAVE THE STATE MONEY. 300 DIRECT JOBS WILL BE LOST BY THE CLOSURE.

ANOTHER SPELL OF COOL, AUTUMN WEATHER IS COMING TO LOUISIANA. STATE CLIMATOLOGIST BARRY KEIM SAYS A COLD AIR MASS WILL ENTER THE STATE TODAY, BRINGING THE COOLEST TEMPERATURES SO FAR THIS SEASON. KEIM SAYS WE CAN EXPECT THE COOLER WEATHER TO BE WITH US THROUGH THE WEEKEND. HE SAYS TEMPERATURES WILL DIP INTO THE 60'S OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, WITH EVEN COOLER MORNINGS LATER IN THE WEEK.

NATCHITOCHES POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING HUMAN REMAINS FOUND INSIDE A HOUSEBOAT THAT WAS PARKED ON A TRAILER. THE GRIM DISCOVERY WAS MADE SATURDAY. THE REMAINS WERE IN AN ADVANCED STAGE OF DECOMPOSITION, AND HAVE BEEN SENT OT THE MEDICAL EXAMINER. THAT OFFICE WILL TRY TO DETERMINE THE PERSON'S IDENTITY AND CAUSE OF DEATH. POLICE IN NATCHITOCHES ASK ANYONE WITH USEFUL INFORMATION TO CONTACT THEM.

THEY’RE BACK.. GROUND TREMORS ARE BEING RECORDED AGAIN, NEAR THAT HUGE SINKHOLE IN ASSUMPTION PARISH NEAR BAYOU CORNE. THERE WERE STRONG TREMORS RECORDED LEADING UP TO THE SINKHOLE'S FIRST APPEARANCE AS WELL. EARTHQUAKE RESEARCHER STEVE HORTON SAYS A RELIEF WELL IS BEING DRILLED TO DETERMINE WHAT'S CAUSING THE TREMORS, AND THE SINKHOLE ITSELF. HE SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHY THE TREMORS HAVE RETURNED. THAT RELIEF WELL COULD BE FINISHED WITHIN ONE OR TWO WEEKS.

A FOURTH-GRADE STUDENT AT RIVERBEND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN MONROE HAS DIED OF WEST NILE ENCEPHALITIS. SCHOOL OFFICIALS SAY CHARLY PRATT HAD BEEN HOSPITALIZED SINCE LATE AUGUST WITH SYMPTOMS OF THE NERO-INVASIVE FORM OF WEST NILE. SHE PASSED AWAY SUNDAY. CHARLY IS THE STATE'S 11TH WEST NILE DEATH THIS YEAR. IT'S IMPORTANT TO TAKE STEPS TO PROTECT ONESELF AND ONE'S CHILDREN FROM MOSQUITO BITES THAT TRANSMIT CARRY WEST NILE.

THE FORMER UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA SYSTEM PRESIDENT TELLS THE AP THE ONGOING BUDGET WOES IN THE STATE WILL MAKE HIS POSITION HARD TO FILL. RANDY MOFFETT'S LAST DAY WAS FRIDAY. HE SAYS THE CUTS HINDERED UL'S MISSION OF FOCUSING ON INCREASED PERFORMANCE.

JUDITH SYLVESTER SAYS A SMOKE-FREE INITIATIVE WOULD ALSO HELP CLEAN UP THE CAMPUS SHE SAYS IS LITTERED WITH CIGARETTE BUTTS. SHE SAYS THE CURRENT POLICY OF NOT SMOKING 25 FEET FROM A CAMPUS BUILDING NEEDS TO BE BETTER ENFORCED. SYLVESTER SAYS ITS AN ISSUE OF RESPECT. SHE SAYS THE IDEA IS TO CHANGE THE CULTURE ON CAMPUS AND SHE'D ALSO LIKE TO SEE NO SMOKING DURING TAILGATING ON GAME DAYS.
