A BOSSIER CITY WOMAN TRYING TO AVOID MILITARY SERVICE CONVINCED HER HUSBAND TO SHOOT HER ON PURPOSE THEN TOLD POLICE IT WAS AN INTRUDER. SPOKESPERSON MARK NATALE SAYS BOTH 25-YEAR-OLD JUDY GROOMES AND HER HUSBAND 26-YEAR-OLD CHRISTOPHER GROOMES NOW FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES. GOVERNOR BOBBY JINDAL ANNOUNCED FRIDAY THAT HE'S SUPPORTING THE IDEA OF CONSOLIDATING THE LSU SYSTEM PRESIDENT'S POST WITH THE CHANCELLOR'S JOB AT THE BATON ROUGE CAMPUS. JINDAL SAYS COMBINING THE TWO JOBS INTO ONE WOULD SAVE LSU MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. THE UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN WITHOUT A SYSTEM PRESIDENT SINCE LATE APRIL WHEN JOHN LOMBARDI WAS DISMISSED. DHH OFFICIALS ENCOURAGE LOUISIANIANS TO BE AWARE OF THE THREAT OF WEST NILE AND TO FIGHT THE BITE.

HURRICANE ISAAC DEVASTATED THE CITRUS CROP IN PLAQUEMINES PARISH. CITRUS FARMER BEN BECNEL SAYS BETWEEN 90 AND 95 PERCENT OF HIS TREES WERE COMPLETELY WIPED OUT FROM THE STORMS FLOODWATERS.
