QUE'IN ON THE RED, IN ALEXANDRIA, WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS MONTH, DUE TO A LACK OF FUNDING. MAYOR JACQUES ROY CONFIRMED THE ANNUAL BARBECUE FESTIVAL HAS BEEN PUT ON HOLD FOR NOW. THE HOPE IS SOME UNDERWRITER WILL COME FORWARD SO THE EVENT MAY BE RESURRECTED AT A LATER DATE. DUE TO REVENUE CONSTRAINTS, THE EVENT RECEIVED NO FUNDING IN THIS YEAR'S CITY BUDGET.

THE 9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT WILL OFFER AN AMNESTY PROGRAM NEXT WEEK FOR DEFENDANTS TO PAY THEIR FINES AND COURT COSTS IN ORDER TO AVOID A CONTEMPT OF COURT ARREST FOR NONPAYMENT. THE PROGRAM ONLY APPLIES TO CASES IN THE 9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT IN RAPIDES PARISH AND NOT TO CASES BEING HANDLED IN A MUNICIPAL COURT. TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PROGRAM, THOSE WITH UNPAID FINES AND COSTS MAY GO TO THE FOURTH FLOOR OF THE RAPIDES PARISH COURTHOUSE IN ALEXANDRIA FROM 9 A.M. TO 6 P.M. NEXT TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, TO PAY THEIR FINES AND COSTS.
"CONTEMPT CHARGES FOR NON-PAYMENT WILL BE DISMISSED AND WARRANTS FOR NONPAYMENT WILL BE RECALLED,"

BOARD MEMBER RONNIE ANDERSON IS CONCERED THAT SUPPORTERS OF THIS IDEA ARE MOVING TO FAST. HE SAYS THERE ARE STILL MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS. THE PROPOSED CHANGE WOULD END THE SHREVEPORT COLLEGE'S AFFILIATION WITH LSU AND MOVE THE SCHOOL INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA SYSTEM. ANDERSON SAYS THE REPORT INDICATED THAT LEADERS IN THE ENTIRE SHREVEPORT AREA ARE SUPPORTING THIS IDEA. HE SAYS THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

ABOUT 12.5 PERCENT OF ALL HOMES SOLD IN LOUISIANA IN 2011 WERE IN SOME STAGE OF FORECLOSURE. THAT'S ACCORDING REALTYTRAC, WHICH TRACKS FORECLOSURES NATIONWIDE. REALTYTRAC SAID THURSDAY THAT 2,039 HOMES SOLD IN THE STATE LAST YEAR WERE IN SOME STAGE OF FORECLOSURE — RANGING FROM AN INITIAL DEFAULT NOTICE TO REPOSSESSION. THAT'S UP 17 PERCENT FROM 2010 AND 79 PERCENT FROM 2009.
REALTYTRAC SAID THE AVERAGE SALE PRICE FOR A FORECLOSED HOME IN LOUISIANA WAS JUST OVER $114,000 — 37 PERCENT LESS FOR SALES OF HOMES NOT IN FORECLOSURE.
NATIONWIDE, THERE WERE JUST OVER 907,000 FORECLOSURE SALES LAST YEAR, WHICH ACCOUNTED FOR 23 PERCENT OF ALL U.S. SALES. THOSE HOMES WENT FOR AN AVERAGE OF 32 PERCENT LESS THAN HOMES NOT IN FORECLOSURE.

A DEPUTY WITH THE ST. TOUCHET IS BEING HELD IN THE ST. MARY PARISH JAIL. BOND IS SET AT 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

A BOTTLED WATER COMPANY IS LOOKING AT LOCATING IN ST. LANDRY PARISH AND THE DECISION SHOULD BE MADE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. "THEY WOULD LIKE TO OPEN IN MARCH OF 2013, WHICH MEANS THEY WOULD LIKE TO START CONSTRUCTION IN NOVEMBER OR OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR. THE PLAN IS FOR THE COMPANY TO BUILD A 350,000 SQUARE FOOT PRODUCTION FACILITY AND INITIALLY HIRE ABOUT 35 WORKERS.
