THE LOUISIANA COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM IS POSTSEASON BOUND. LOUISIANA COLLEGE WILL FACE HARDIN-SIMMONS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT IN BELTON, TEXAS. TIP-OFF IS AT 2:30 P.M. FRIDAY. IT WILL BE THE FIRST POSTSEASON APPEARANCE FOR THE WILDCATS SINCE 2008.

ROEMER'S NEXT GOAL IS TO MAKE A FIFTEEN PERCENT SHOWING IN THE NATIONAL POLITICAL POLLS MAKING HIM ELIGIBLE FOR ANY PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES.

THE U.S POSTAL SERVICE HAS DECIDED TO CONSOLIDATE ALL OF IT'S MAIL PROCESSING OPERATIONS IN SOUTH LOUISIANA TO THE PROCESSING AND DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN BATON ROUGE. MCKINNEY BOYD, SPOKESPERSON FOR THE POSTAL SERVICE, SAYS THE MOVE IS AN EFFORT TO SAVE MONEY. IF THE CONSOLIDATION TAKES PLACE, THE PROCESSING CENTER IN NEW ORLEANS WOULD CLOSE COMPLETELY AND THE CENTER IN LAFAYETTE WOULD ONLY HANDLE INCOMING MAIL. BOYD SAYS THEY HOPE TO SAVE MONEY THROUGH GREATER EFFICIENCY. THE POSTAL SERVICE HAS SEEN A SHARP DROP IN REVENUES BECAUSE OF A 25-PERCENT DROP IN FIRST CLASS MAIL VOLUME SINCE 2006.

HE SAYS HE INTENDS TO FILE A BILL THAT WOULD REQUIRE AT LEAST SOME JAIL TIME FOR EVEN FIRST-OFFENSE DWI'S.

STATE POLICE ARREST A CONCORDIA PARISH WOMAN FOR ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO EXTORT MONEY FROM HER PARENTS. 25-YEAR-OLD TANYA FISHER TOLD HER FOLKS SHE'D BE KILLED IF THEY DIDN'T WIRE $350 TO A BUSINESS IN SULPHUR. SHE WAS LOCATED IN A HOTEL IN WESTLAKE, IN CALCASIEU PARISH, AND BOOKED WITH EXTORTION, RESISTING ARREST AND SOME DRUG CHARGES. A CONVICTION COULD GET THE WOMAN UP TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON.

A SHREVEPORT MAN IS CHARGED WITH 2ND-DEGREE MURDER FOR THE DEATH OF HIS ONE YEAR OLD SON. THE BOY DIED A WEEK AGO, WHEN RESCUE WORKERS FOUND HIM UNCONSCIOUS AND UNRESPONSIVE IN HIS HOME. BASED ON THE INVESTIGATION, OFFICERS CHARGED 23-YEAR-OLD RODRICUS CRAWFORD WITH CAUSING THE CHILD'S DEATH. CRAWFORD WAS ALREADY IN THE CADDO PARISH JAIL ON UNRELATED CHARGES.

INVESTIGATORS HOPE A SAFE FOUND IN LIVINGSTON PARISH WILL PROVIDE CLUES TO HELP THEM SOLVE A BRUTAL DOUBLE MURDER IN GONZALES. 74-YEAR-OLD IRWIN MARCHAND AND 50-YEAR-OLD DOUGLAS DOOLEY WERE FOUND IN THEIR HOME WITH THEIR THROATS SLASHED IN AN APPARENT BREAK IN. ASCENSION CHIEF DEPUTY TONY BACALA SAYS A SAFE WAS ALSO MISSING. BACALA SAYS IRWIN'S 72-YEAR OLD WIFE, SHIRLEY, CONTINUES TO FIGHT FOR HER LIFE.

STATE DISTRICT JUDGE MIKE CANADAY HAS SENTENCED A 47-YEAR-OLD VINTON MAN TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR FOURTH-OFFENSE DRUNKEN DRIVING. NEIL PAUL ELLIS PLEADED GUILTY WEDNESDAY TO DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED ON NOV. 24, 2011, WHEN HE RAN HIS VEHICLE INTO A DITCH. ELLIS ALSO ADMITTED TO VIOLATING THE PROBATION HE RECEIVED FOR A MAY 9, 2004, DWI CONVICTION. HE WAS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF DRUNKEN DRIVING IN APRIL OF 2000, AND SEPT. OF 1999. HE WAS FIRST ARRESTED FOR DWI WAS IN SEPT. OF 84. CANADAY SENTENCED ELLIS TO 10 YEARS FOR THE PROBATION VIOLATION AND 10 YEARS FOR THE NEW CONVICTION.

A THURSDAY. POLICE SAY THE PLOT CENTERED ON A NEW ORLEANS BUSINESS MAN, WHO OWNED SEVERAL RETAIL STORES. THE SAFE IN ONE OF THE MAN'S BUSINESSES. SOMETIMES CONTAINED BETWEEN $150,000 AND $200,000. THE PLAN WAS TO STEAL THE MONEY AND KILL THE BUSINESSMAN.
