STATE POLICE SAY THERE ARE A LOT OF UNANSWERED QUESTIONS IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF WILDLIFE & FISHERIES AGENT SGT. PAUL STUCKEY, WHOSE BODY WAS FOUND FRIDAY MORNING--A SHOTGUN WOUND TO HIS CHEST. LSP SAYS IT DOESN'T APPEAR THAT ANYONE ELSE WAS PRESENT WITH STUCKEY WHEN THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE. THAT WOULD SEEM TO INDICATE IT WAS EITHER AN ACCIDENT OR SUICIDE. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

IF YOU ARE A SMOKER AND YOU FEEL YOU CAN NOT KICK THE HABIT, YOU MAY WANT TO START LOOKING FOR A NEW LINE OF WORK IF YOU WORK AT CABRINI HOSPITAL. CHRISTUS ST. FRANCES CABRINI HOSPITAL IN ALEXANDRIA WILL IMPLEMENT AN ANTI-TOBACCO POLICY FOR ITS ENTIRE CAMPUS STARTING JULY 1 OF NEXT YEAR, EXPANDING THE POLICY PUT IN PLACE TWO YEARS AGO FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S AREAS.
THE POLICY WILL PROHIBIT THE USE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS BY EMPLOYEES WHILE ON THEIR SHIFTS, INCLUDING WHEN THEY ARE ON BREAKS. IT ALSO WILL NOT ALLOW EMPLOYEES TO WORK IF THEIR CLOTHING SMELLS LIKE SMOKE.

THE ALEXANDRIA CITY COUNCIL WILL TAKE UP FOR VOTE ON TUESDAY AN ORDINANCE THAT WOULD ELIMINATE ALL SMOKING IN PUBLIC WORKPLACES IN THE CITY. THE COUNCIL'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE WILL DISCUSS THE ORDINANCE DURING ITS 3 P.M. MEETING, WHILE THE FULL COUNCIL IS SCHEDULED TO VOTE ON THE ORDINANCE DURING ITS MEETING AT 5. THE ORDINANCE, WHICH WAS PROPOSED BY COUNCIL PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT JOHNSON AND HAS BEEN ENDORSED BY THE LOUISIANA CAMPAIGN FOR TOBACCO-FREE LIVING, WOULD DO AWAY WITH ALL SMOKING IN ALEXANDRIA BARS, GAMING ESTABLISHMENTS, HOTELS AND OUTDOOR CITY PROPERTY. THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA WAS AMONG THE FIRST MUNICIPALITIES TO BAN SMOKING IN RESTAURANTS, DOING SO IN 2006.


A 62-YEAR-OLD MOREAUVILLE MAN DIED SATURDAY IN A SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH ON LA. HIGHWAY 451 IN BORDELONVILLE. STATE POLICE TROOP REPORT, A MOTORCYCLE, DRIVEN BY LARRY MARTIN LEFT THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK SOME TREES. MARTIN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

REDMAN SAYS, BARRING SOME INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT, OR A SCENARIO WHERE THE US DOLLAR "COMPLETELY TANKS"--HE EXPECTS WE'LL ALL SEE CONTINUED SAVINGS WHEN WE FILL UP. MAYBE EVEN A GAS PRICE OF $3 BY HALLOWEEN.

A LAKE CHARLES TEEN IS CHARGED WITH MURDERING HIS AUNT. LAKE CHARLES POLICE CHIEF DON DIXON SAYS OFFICERS FOUND 40-YEAR-OLD SUSAN DOISE DEAD INSIDE HER HOME; HER SUV AND LIVE-IN NEPHEW, JEFFREY DOISE, MISSING. BOND IS SET AT HALF A MILLION DOLLARS FOR AN EPPS WOMAN, WHO WALKED INTO RICHLAND PARISH SHERIFF'S HEADQUARTERS THIS WEEK AND CONFESSED TO KILLING HER EX-GIRLFRIEND AND THAT WOMAN'S NEW PARTNER. 44-YEAR-OLD TINA MCINTYRE FACES TWO 2ND-DEGREE MURDER CHARGES.

LOUISIANA'S HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS SOMEONE WHO ATE CANTALOUPE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH LISTERIA. KEIM SAYS OCTOBER HURRICANES ARE A RARE OCCURRENCE FOR LOUISIANA. BUT, LATE HURRICANES DO HAPPEN. HE CITES HURRICANE JUAN, WHICH DUMPED OVER 11 INCHES OF RAIN ON LOUISIANA OVER HALLOWEEN IN 1985.

ALTHOUGH THE GOVERNOR HAS ENDORSED NO CANDIDATE FOR THE LT. GOVERNOR'S RACE, CHALLENGER BILLY NUNGESSER SAYS HE ENTERED THE RACE AT BOBBY JINDAL'S URGING.. GOVERNOR JINDAL'S OFFICE SAYS MR. JINDAL ENCOURAGED ANYONE WHO WAS INTERESTED IN PUBLIC OFFICE TO RUN, BUT HE HAS GIVEN NO OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT TO NUNGESSER FOR LT. GOVERNOR. NUNGESSER SAYS HE INTENDS TO SEEK THAT ENDORSEMENT BEFORE THE OCTOBER 22ND ELECTION. THE GOVERNOR HAS GIVEN NO OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT TO NUNGESSER, BECAUSE HE WILL HAVE TO WORK CLOSELY WITH WHOEVER WINS THAT RACE, AND WANTS TO AVOID HARD FEELINGS.

THE PENNINGTON BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CENTER IN BATON ROUGE RECEIVES A $3.5 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH TO RESEARCH AN EFFECTIVE WAY FOR PREGNANT WOMEN TO MANAGE THEIR WEIGHT. DR. LEANNE REDMAN IS THE HEAD OF THE WOMEN'S HEALTH LABA AND CO-PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR OF THE STUDY. REDMAN REDMAN SAYS MORE THAN TWO-THIRDS OF PREGNANT WOMEN ARE GAINING WEIGHT IN EXCESS OF THE RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES AND SHE SAYS EXCESS WEIGHT DURING PREGNANCY HAS HUGE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES. REDMAN SAYS THE STUDY WILL LAST FIVE YEARS AND THEY WILL BEGIN RECRUITING WOMEN NEXT SUMMER.
