FORMER ARCHBISHOP PHILIP MATTHEW HANNAN, WHO GAVE THE EULOGY FOR PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY AND LATER SERVED MORE THAN THREE DECADES AS THE HEAD OF THE NEW ORLEANS ROMAN CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE, DIED THURSDAY. HE WAS 98. THE ARCHDIOCESE SAID HE DIED PEACEFULLY SHORTLY AFTER 3 A.M. HE HAD BEEN IN DECLINING HEALTH FOR YEARS.

AFTER A VERY WARM WEEK, LOUISIANA IS WAKING UP TO SOME VERY AUTUMN-LIKE WEATHER TODAY. STATE CLIMATOLOGIST BARRY KEIM SAYS MUCH OF THE STATE IS STARTING THE DAY WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 60'S, AND HE SAYS IT WILL GET EVEN COOLER. KEIM SAYS A COOL FRONT MOVING THROUGH THE STATE TO THE SOUTH HAS BROUGHT LOWER TEMPERATURES AND DRYER AIR. HE SAYS TODAYS HIGHS SHOULD RANGE IN THE LOW TO MID-80'S, AND THE COOLING TREND CONTINUES TONIGHT WITH LOWS IN THE 40’S. KEIM SAYS WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO SEVERAL DAYS OF GORGEOUS FALL WEATHER.

18 YEAR OLD TEDRICK RICHARDSON FACES A LONG LIST OF CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO WAS FOUND SHOT ON EAST TEXAS AVENUE WEDNESDAY MORNING. RICHARDSON WAS CHARGED WITH SECOND-DEGREE MURDER, ATTEMPTED SECOND-DEGREE MURDER AND UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A MOVABLE AFTER 55-YEAR-OLD JOE MARZETT DIED IN A LOCAL HOSPITAL. THE APD ALSO BELIEVES RICHARDSON WAS INVOLVED IN SHOOTINGS THAT OCCURRED WEDNESDAY ON MONROE AND NINTH STREETS. IN THOSE SHOOTINGS ONE MAN WAS INJURED.

LSU KICKS OFF AGAINST THE KENTUCKY WILDCATS TOMORROW MORNING AT 11:20 IN TIGER STADIUM. LSU'S ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR HERB VINCENT SAYS THERE ARE STILL TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THE GAME. LSU ISN'T USED TO GAMES STARTING SO EARLY, SO VINCENT ADVISES TIGER FANS TO ARRIVE EARLY, CARPOOL IF YOU CAN AND BE PATIENT.

FOURTEEN NATCHITOCHES PARISH RESIDENTS WERE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES DURING A WARRANT ROUNDUP CONDUCTED BY THE NATCHITOCHES MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL DRUG TASK FORCE. ADDITIONAL ARRESTS ARE EXPECTED OUT OF THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION.

FOUR GLENMORA RESIDENTS WERE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER METHAMPHETAMINE WAS DISCOVERED IN THEIR HOME. THE RAPIDES PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE. SAYS ALL FOUR HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH CREATING OR OPERATING CLANDESTINE LAB AND OTHER DRUG RELATED CHARGES.

THE LOUISIANA SUPREME COURT HAS REINSTATED A RAPIDES PARISH JURY'S 2009 DECISION TO CONVICT FORMER LECOMPTE ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF TODD ANDREW JONES FOR ATTEMPTED INDECENT BEHAVIOR WITH A JUVENILE, ACCORDING TO THE RAPIDES PARISH DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. THE 36 YEAR OLD JONES APPEALED TO THE 3RD CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEAL, WHICH OVERTURNED THE CONVICTION. THE DA'S OFFICE THEN APPEALED THE 3RD CIRCUIT'S DECISION, AND THE SUPREME COURT REINSTATED JONES' CONVICTION IN A 4-3 DECISION. IN THE 2009 TRIAL, THE JURY BELIEVED THAT JONES "VERBALLY SUGGESTED TO A 16-YEAR-OLD THAT THEY ENGAGE IN ORAL SEX," A CHARGE JONES NEVER DENIED. HOWEVER, HE SAYS IT WAS JUST A JOKE."

IT BEGAN YESTERDAY AS AN 18-WHEELER LEAKING NITRIC ACID EARLIER TODAY ON I-10 EASTBOUND, JUST EAST OF JENNINGS. STATE POLICE CLOSED THE EASTBOUND LANES UNTIL THE LEAKING LOAD COULD BE CLEARED. THEN AN EASTBOUND ACCIDENT, INVOLVING A SECOND 18-WHEELER CARRYING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, LEAD POLICE TO CLOSE BOTH SIDES OF I-10 IN JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH. THERE WERE NO FATALITIES IN EITHER INCIDENT.

THE LOUISIANA HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION SAYS THE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC DEATHS HAS FALLEN TO ITS LOWEST LEVEL SINCE THEY STARTED COMPILING SUCH DATA IN 1984. ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, 720 PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN CRASHES IN 2010, WHICH IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT THE NUMBER OF FATALITIES HAS DECLINED ON LOUISIANA'S ROADS.

MAGINNIS SAYS THE ONLY THING STANDING BETWEEN JINDAL AND A RECORD MARGIN OF VICTORY IS A LARGE PROTEST VOTE. HE SAYS PROTEST VOTERS ARE MORE LIKELY TO VOTE WITH THEIR FEET BY NOT CASTING A VOTE.

AN ATTORNEY WHO REPRESENTS BUSINESSES IN THE SEAFOOD INDUSTRY SAYS LAST YEARS BP OIL SPILL IS TO BLAME FOR A DRAMATIC REDUCTION IN WHITE SHRIMP. DANIEL BECNEL SAYS FISHERMAN ARE HARVESTING VERY FEW WHITE SHRIMP AND IT COULD BE BECAUSE OF THE CHEMICAL THAT WAS USED TO DISPERSE THE OIL. BECNEL SAYS HE IS WORKING WITH BP FUNDS ADMINISTRATOR KEN FINEBERG TO RE-EVALUATE CERTAIN SHRIMP CLAIMS.

NASA ANNOUNCES IT HAS CHOSEN THE MICHOUD ASSEMBLY FACILITY TO BUILD COMPONENTS OF ITS NEW HEAVY-LIFT ROCKET. THE FACILITY IN EASTERN NEW ORLEANS HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A REDUCED ROLE IN NASA PROGRAMS FOLLOWING THE END OF THE SHUTTLE PROGRAM.

THE ATTORNEY FOR A RETIRED EDUCATOR WHO LOST A CHALLENGE TO HIS CANDIDACY FOR A STATE HOUSE SEAT PLANS TO APPEAL THE RULING TO THE LOUISIANA SUPREME COURT.
JOHN SETTLE JR., ATTORNEY FOR RAYMOND HICKS SAYS HICKS HAS DECIDED TO APPEAL WEDNESDAY'S RULING BY THE 2ND CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS TO THE STATE'S HIGHEST COURT. HICKS IS SEEKING THE STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 2 SEAT CURRENTLY HELD BY REP. ROY BURRELL. BURRELL'S CAMPAIGN MANAGER, RUDOLPH MORTON, CHALLENGED HICKS' CANDIDACY, ALLEGING HICKS HADN'T LIVED IN THE DISTRICT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR.
THE APPEALS COURT VOTED 4-3 TO UPHOLD A STATE DISTRICT JUDGE'S RULING THAT HICKS WAS NOT ELIGIBLE TO RUN.

THE CEO OF GULF ISLAND FABRICATION, A LEADING MANUFACTURER OF OFFSHORE RIGS AND DRILLING PLATFORMS, SAYS THE COMPANY INTENDS TO HIRE HUNDREDS OF WORKERS IN LOUISIANA AND TEXAS AS IT BEGINS WORK ON NEW PROJECTS. THE HOUMA-BASED COMPANY HAS SUBSIDIARIES IN THE HOUMA AREA AND AT ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS. GULF ISLAND CEO KERRY CHAUVIN EXPECTS BY YEAR'S END TO ADD 500 JOBS IN ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS, AND 200 IN HOUMA.

STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A 37-YEAR-OLD NATCHITOCHES MAN WHO DIED MONDAY AFTER A CHASE WITH NATCHITOCHES PARISH SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES. MARION GRANT WAS ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AND CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST AND OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE AFTER A VEHICLE PURSUIT ON LA. HIGHWAY 1 WITH NATCHITOCHES DRUG TASK FORCE OFFICIALS. WHILE IN POLICE CUSTODY, TROOPERS SAY GRANT BECAME ILL AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE NATCHITOCHES REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WHERE HE WAS TREATED AND LATER DIED. AN AUTOPSY WAS PERFORMED, BUT OFFICIALS HAVE NOT RELEASED A CAUSE OF DEATH.
