AN ALEXANDRIA POLICE OFFICER ON WEDNESDAY SHOT AND WOUNDED A MAN ON POST OAK BOULEVARD WHO WAS CARRYING A GUN AND FIRED A SHOT IN THE AIR. 42 YEAR OLD SHEL RANDAL BOHANNON WAS TRANSPORTED TO RAPIDES REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE INJURIES. STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT. POLICE SAY THE SHOOTING OCCURRED AROUND 1:20 P.M. IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD BEHIND SUPER 1 FOODS ON MACARTHUR DRIVE.

RAPIDES PARISH SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS ARE CONSIDERING THE CREATION OF A NEW COMMITTEE DESIGNED TO HANDLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ILLICIT SPORTS RECRUITING ACTIVITIES THAT MAY VIOLATE ITS OPEN ENROLLMENT POLICY. THE HURRICANE SEASON'S THIRD NAMED STORM HAS FORMED IN THE ATLANTIC, BUT--RELAX--IT SHOULD POSE NO THREAT TO THE GULF OR TO LOUISIANA. TROPICAL STORM CINDY IS WAY OUT AT SEA, PACKING 40 MILE AN HOUR WINDS, BUT IS TRACKING TO THE NORTHEAST AND FARTHER INTO OPEN WATER.

FORMER GOV. KATHLEEN BLANCO WILL MAKE HER FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE THIS WEEKEND SINCE BEING DIAGNOSED WITH AND TREATED FOR A RARE EYE CANCER.

WEST MONROE POLICE HAVE BUSTED A SHOPLIFTING OPERATION THAT NETTED THE THIEVES OVER $2000 IN STOLEN GOODS IN JUST A COUPLE DAYS. OFFICERS REPORT AN SUV REGISTERED TO 40-YEAR-OLD MICHELLE BLADE ON MONROE CONTAINED FOUR SHOPPING CARTS FULL OF MERCHANDISE; ALLEGEDLY TAKEN FROM A WAL-MART AND A NEARBY STAGE STORE.

THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HOSPITALS WILL SOON CHOOSE A PRIVATE COMPANY TO MANAGE ITS UPCOMING COORDINATION OF SERVICES PROVIDED BY VARIOUS STATE AGENCIES TO AT-RISK CHILDREN. THE NEW PROGRAM WILL ALLOW MORE TYPES OF PROVIDERS AND SERVICES UNDER MEDICAID, AS LONG AS THE TREATMENTS ARE PROVEN TO WORK.

THE 45-STORY PLAZA TOWER IN NEW ORLEANS IS ON THE AUCTION BLOCK WITH A MINIMUM BID OF $250,000. A JOINT VENTURE PUTTING THE LONG-EMPTY BUILDING FOR SALE, SAYS THE SKYSCRAPER HAS A GUTTED INTERIOR SHELL AND POSSIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS HAVE BEEN FIXED. THE PLAZA TOWER WAS BUILT IN 1964. IT ALSO HAS AN EIGHT-STORY PARKING GARAGE AND A 30,000-SQUARE-FOOT ANNEX. THE BUILDING IS THE THIRD-TALLEST IN BOTH NEW ORLEANS AND LOUISIANA.
